Chocolate Dipped Pear Hearts

Chocolate Dipped Pear Hearts
  • Serving Size: 6 Pear Pops
  • Gluten Free
  • Vegan

A healthy and festive treat that's fun to eat! You can even experiment with other fruits if a festive heart shape is not your goal.

Ingredients

  • 2 firm pears
  • 2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup Koala Crisp
  • white lollipop sticks (with one pointed end, if possible)
  • wax paper or a silicone mat
  • lemon juice (optional)

Directions

  1. Carefully chop the pears into 1/2 inch slices, parallel with the core, removing the seeds as you go.  You should be able to get 3 - 5, 1/2" thick slices out of one pear. Carefully cut around wider end of the pear slice, to create a rounded 'm' shape to make the pear look like a heart.
  2. Spear your pear with the lollipop stick, driving the lollipop stick up through the core (push the stick in from the pointy side of the pear so your pear will look like a heart when you hold the stick). If your lollipop sticks are not pointed, first push a shish-kabob stick up into the pear to make a hole, then remove it and push the lollipop stick into the hole.
  3. Now put 1 1/2 cups of chocolate into a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring between each one, until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Add the last 1/2 cup of chocolate and stir until it has melted.
  4. Onto a small flat plate or other surface, spread the cereal out in an even layer.
  5. Carefully dip the heart end of the pear into the chocolate, smoothing it around with a spatula until it is coated about 1/3-1/2 way down the pear. Carefully remove any chocolate that will drip.
  6. Carefully press the chocolate coated end into the cereal, coating all sides, then place it on the wax paper to harden.  Let the pears sit at room temperature for 25-30 minutes until the chocolate is hard.  If you are worried about your pears going brown, carefully brush the exposed pear with a little lemon juice. Eat the same day.
