What Are They Anyway?

The mere mention of the word “superfood” makes some people roll their eyes. Shouldn’t all healthy foods be called “super”? Well not exactly. Superfoods tend to have a higher vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant to calorie ratio than your average food. Read on to learn more about a few of our current favourite superfoods and how to incorporate them into your diet!

A common, crunchy addition to salads (and our Pumpkin Seed & Flax Granola!) pumpkin seeds contain fiber, protein, zinc, iron, and a host of other vitamins and minerals – making a great go-to for people with plant based diets.

Considered one of the most powerful herbs in the world, turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. The main active ingredient in this spice is curcumin – an antioxidant and powerful anti-inflammatory. Turmeric boasts a huge variety of potential health benefits and is definitely worth including as a regular part of your diet.

Despite many common misconceptions about hemp seed (no, they can not and will not get you “high”), this little super seed prevails as a popular and incredibly nutritious addition to any diet. Rich in essential fatty acids and plant proteins, hemp seeds are admired for a range of health benefits.

Nature has created an abundance of nourishing, nutrient-dense plant foods that support a demanding lifestyle. I love using superfoods like chia and hemp seeds to give a little boost of energizing minerals and anti-inflammatory omega 3 fats to my meals.
