Nature’s Path Organic Leaders Arran and Ratana Stephens announced as Hall of Fame inductees by the Business Laureates of British Columbia

Richmond, B.C. (November 13, 2019) – As trail blazers of the organic movement, Nature’s Path Organic Foods Co-Founders and Co-CEOs are announced as the first couple ever to be inducted into the Business Laureates of British Columbia (BLBC) Hall of Fame.

For more than 50 years, Arran and Ratana have been key leaders behind the regenerative organic food movement, inspiring millions of consumers to eat well, feel better and do good, offering innovative and nutritious products under their popular Nature’s Path, Que Pasa, EnviroKidz, and Love Crunch brands.

The company, headquartered in Richmond, BC, has been part of the culture of Vancouver since the 1960s, when Arran and Ratana operated Canada’s first vegetarian restaurant, The Golden Lotus, in Kitsilano. This was shortly followed by LifeStream, Canada’s first natural food super-market, and in 1989, Nature’s Path was born out of the back of their restaurant. In 1989, the couple opened North America’s first certified organic breakfast cereal factory in Delta, BC, followed by two more manufacturing plants in the USA.

“In a pioneering spirit, our businesses have always taken a stand for our customers’ health and for the planet,” said Arran Stephens. “We were educating the public about the importance of a wholesome diet for good health, creating and bringing to the public delicious organic wholegrain plant-based foods in the ‘60s right through to the present, long before most people had even heard of organic agriculture,” Arran continued.

We’ve seen a movement grow from practically nothing then, into a global industry today valued at over US$100 billion, employing millions of people. As a BC-family enterprise, Ratana and I are grateful to have played our role as servant-leaders and pioneers. On behalf of our valued team members, we feel humbled and honoured to be recognized by Business Laureates of British Columbia,” said Arran

Nearly 35 years since the beginning of Nature’s Path, the husband and wife powerhouse has grown the business into the largest organic cereal manufacturer and brand in North America, supported by hundreds of team members, primarily employed in their three state-of-the-art factories, not including organic farming operations in SaskatchewanRatana believes part of their ‘secret sauce’ is a dedication to doing good and giving back to the community.

“I feel very privileged that I wake up every day, excited to be in a position where I can have a positive impact,” said Ratana Stephens. “Business should be a cause for good, which is why Nature’s Path operates on the triple-bottom line of social responsibility, environmental sustainability and financial viability. I’m grateful that Arran and I, through our various organic enterprises, have donated tens of millions of dollars to local charities, food banks, universitiesenvironmental partners and hospitals,” Ratana continued.

Arran and Ratana are among 13 esteemed British Columbians who will be inducted into the 2020 BLBC Hall of Fame in May next year. The pair was chosen for their vision, legacy, leadership and integrity – the four pillars of the Hall of Fame.
