@asianbuzz1 – I usually keep mine in an airtight tupperware. These probably won’t last as long as some of my other granola bar mixtures, since it contains fresh carrot, but generally you can keep these for 5-7 days (perhaps longer) and if you individually wrap and freeze them, they should keep for even longer.

GLUTEN ALERT!
While you might think, from reading ingredients, that this product is gluten-free, it is not. I had a bad gluten reaction from it. If a rep from Nature’s Valley reads this, PLEASE PLEASE put a gluten warning on the package. Celiac disease is no joke. It’s a shame because the cereal is yummy, but for me (and many others) it is also toxic.

Hi, I like your cereal, and there are no wheat products listed in the ingredients. However, I get all my Celiac symptoms when I eat it; I’ve had to stop. Which sucks, because I bought 6 boxes. PLEASE PLEASE, if there is gluten in your products, LIST IT! Celiac disease is no joke. Better yet, eliminate the gluten. It’s clearly not required.

Hi Peter and thanks for taking the time to ask us this question! The hull hasn’t been removed from the flax used in our products. Some of our products contain whole flax seeds (listed as organic flaxseeds in the ingredients) and some contain a combination of ground and whole flaxseeds (listed as organic flax in the ingredients).
The reason they aren’t all fully ground or crushed because they go rancid very quickly without refrigeration or the use of preservatives. However, some of the seeds do actually get ground up by the cereal manufacturing process to make more nutrients available and some of the seeds that are attached to flakes will be broken by the teeth to make some of the nutrients available to you. A selection of Nature’s Path cereals such as Flax Multibran Flakes do use a combination of whole and ground flax but they therefore only have a shelf life of 6 months; not practical for some of our other flax products such as the Flax Granola.
At this time there isn’t a better solution to the problem unless we use preservatives and we won’t do that because we make organic products. Whole flax seeds do also provide valuable fibre benefits. If you’d like to include ground flaxseed in your diet, what I’d suggest is picking up a bag of our FlaxPlus Flaxseed Meal and adding a tablespoon of that to your cereal, baking, etc (it’s uses are endless!). Just be sure to refrigerate the bag and you’re good to go! Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Hello. My whole family loves the Flax Plus Pumpkin and ate it for a couple of years. However, only two of us can eat it now. Last year we discovered our son is significantly sensitive to gluten. I recently tried your cereal again for him, and he had a bad gluten reaction. I was so sad! We love your cereal because it’s not too hard and crunchy. The oats and their syrup solids really do pick up the gluten, unfortunately. Other “gluten-free” brands out there just don’t come close to Nature’s Path when it comes to granola-types of products. I really hope you will work hard to acquire contracts for enough gluten-free oats to at least produce one product with them. If Bob’s Red Mill and Udi’s can do it, I encourage you to research some more!

Hi Amy and thanks for sharing your input with us. We totally get that people are looking for yummy, oragnic, gluten-free options such as an organic gluten-free granola. I’ll be sure to pass this info along to the Brand Manager and to our Research and Development Team. From my understanding upon reviewing their website, Udi’s Gluten-Free doesn’t make organic granola. After looking at Bob’s Red Mill website, it appears that while they make organic oats and they make gluten-free oats, they don’t make oats that are BOTH organic AND gluten-free. Am I correct? If so, Perhaps they are experiencing the same trouble in the supply chain as we are. Rest assured, we’re all about offering awesome gluten-free options, so when it becomes available we’ll be all over that. Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Hello I just want to know are your products gluten free?
Hi there and thanks for
Submitted by Justine on January 31, 2012 - 15:10.
Hi there and thanks for asking us your question. To be clear, if one of our products says it’s gluten-free, ONLY then is it gluten-free. Our GF products have been certified Gluten-Free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (or GFCO, please visit www.gfco.org to view their website) which is a program of the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) and is the highest quality certification available today. We don’t have a dedicated GF facility however, we’re completely confident that our GF products are acceptable for those following a GF diet. However, you must see this GF certification label in order for it to truly be GF. There are instances (ex- this granola) where there aren’t any gluten ingredients listed, however we can’t guarantee it’s gluten-free and therefore you won’t find a GF label. I hope that clarifies everything for you! Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

My husband and I really enjoy your pumpkin flax granola (especially with greek yogurt)! I noticed that there are quite a few whole flax seeds and am wondering if there is also ground flax seed in your granola? I have read that our bodies cannot digest whole flax seeds due to the coating on the outside (and therefore we don’t get the nutrients/Omega-3 fatty acids when they’re whole). Thank you!

Hi Adria and thanks for reaching out to us with your comment. To clarify, the hull has not been removed from the flax used in this granola. Some of our products contain whole flax seeds (listed as flaxseeds in the ingredients) and some contain a combination of ground and whole flaxseeds (listed as flax in the ingredients.
The organic flax that we use in some of our products, such as this, aren’t all fully ground or crushed because they go rancid very quickly without refrigeration or the use of preservatives. Some of the seeds that are attached to flakes will be broken by the teeth to make some of the nutrients available to you. A selection of Nature’s Path cereals such as Flax Multibran Flakes do use a combination of whole and ground flax but they therefore only have a shelf life of 6 months; not practical for some of our other flax products such as this Flax Granola. If you’d like ground flaxseed in your granola, I’d suggest getting a bag of our Flax Plus Flaxseed Meal which you can sprinkle on any of your cereals, incorporate it into your baking, etc. Just be sure to keep the bag refrigerated! Submitted by Justine on February 1, 2012 - 13:35.
Hi Mark and thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! We currently don’t make gluten-free granola. While there isn’t any gluten ingredients in this granola, there issue lies with the oats. Though oats aren’t believed to cause harm to our GF friends, there’s risk of cross-contamination with gluten in the fields and during the milling process. At this time, there isn’t the supply of gluten-free organic oats that we’d need to make this truly gluten-free. As for the sugar content, we’re totally aware that people are becoming more conscious of their sugar intake so I’ll pass on your feedback to the Brand Manager. To add, we think sugars in moderation are okay so long as it’s incorporated into a nutritious meal like this. Just food for thought! Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Why is there so much fat in one serving? Is that bad?
Hi there and thanks for
Submitted by Justine on December 28, 2011 - 10:33.
Hi there and thanks for getting in touch with us! The fat content in this granola mostly comes from monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats which are considered “healthy fats”. This includes 450 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids and 1500 mg of Omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential fatty acids our bodies need to regulate the activities of our cells. So, while too much fat in a diet can be unhealthy, choosing foods with the right kind of fats is key. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Submitted by Justine on December 20, 2011 - 10:29.
Hi Erin and thanks for your question. It’s a great one that I’m sure tons of people are wondering. The reason our granola isn’t gluten-free is due to the oats. In theory, oats aren’t hazardous for our gluten-free friends however, there’s risk of cross-contamination of the oats with wheat, rye and barley in the fields and during the milling process. At this time in North America, organic gluten-free oats aren’t available in the quantity we’d need. However, we have lots of requests to make certified gluten-free oats products so perhaps this is something we can develop in the future. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

We have been purchasing the Flax Plus Pumpkin Seed Granola at Costco and significant portion of the packaging bags are not sealed along the longitudinal seam. I would estimate 15 to 20% are not being sealed. Frustrating when the cereal spills when pouring in to a bowl. This package information: 2012 July 26 16:41 37952 and I wouldn’t mention this if it was the just the second or third time. If your product testing does not include a vacuum jar test of the packaged product then I suggest you find out how to better measure the successful operation of your packaging machinery, the successful training of the people operating the packaging lines and your interest in quality control. Good luck.

Hi Kaye and thanks for reaching out to us. We really appreciate your long-time loyalty and I just love to read about how you spread the “good word” about our granola— so nice of you! You might want to try Kirkland Signature by Nature’s Path Organic Ancient Grains Granola available at Costco, as it has less sugar but still the yummy and wholesome crunch of granola. In the meantime, I’ll pass along your thoughts on the sugar content to the Brand Manager who always appreciates feedback like yours. As for what Costco carries, it’s ultimately up to the retailer if a particular product is on shelves or not, so if you’d like your local Costco to bring it back— tell ‘em! They’re likely to carry it again if they know you want it. But here’s some good news, I’ve recently seen this granola at Costco near our Richmond, British Columbia head office, so I know Costco still carries this. Keep in mind that this granola can also be found at major retailers such as Whole Foods Market or online at Amazon.com If you’re still having trouble finding it, please contact Nicolette, Consumer Services, using our contact form here: http://www.naturespath.com/contact-us, and she’ll be happy to help you further. While oats themselves don’t seem to cause any harm, there can be issues with cross-contamination from wheat, rye and barley in the field or during the milling process.
