Hi Sylvie and thanks for

Hi Sylvie and thanks for getting in contact with us. I’d suggest trying these major retailers that carry ourproducts in the US Southeast area: Albertsons, BiLo, Bruno’s, CAP (Coop), Costco, Earth Fare, Food City, Fresh Markets(Lawndale), Greewise, Harris Teeter, Ingles Supermarkets, Kash & Kary, Kroger’s, Lowe’s, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Safeway, Sweetbay, Trader Joe’s, Tunies, Wal Mart, Whole Foods, Winn Dixie. You can also find this online at Amazon.com if you don’t mind buying in bulk. If those options don’t work, please get in touch with Nicolette, Consumer Services, using our contact form here: http://www.naturespath.com/contact-us, and she can help you find exactly where this cereal is located near you. Hi there, my son is reactive

Hi there, my son is reactive to preervatives in food and I am wondering about the tocopherols in this cereal. Are they synthetic? Can you give me more information?

Hi Jennie and thanks for

Hi Jennie and thanks for reaching out to us. Our products certified organic, and therefore we don’t use artificial additives or preservatives. Tocopherols are a natural vitamin E used to ensure the freshness of our products and those used in our products are non-GMO plant based. The tocopherols aren’t allergenic as they don’t contain any proteins. The exact composition used is considered proprietary information by the supplier. Hope that helps! All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

I recently purchased Mesa

I recently purchased Mesa Sunrise and would like to know the percentage of each ingredient, i.e. flax, corn, quinoa and amaranth. What is evaporated cane juice and where does it come from? Thank you.

Hi there and thanks for

Hi there and thanks for getting in touch with us. We can’t share exactly what percentage each ingredient is as that is considered proprietary information. However, I can share a bit about our evaporated cane juice, which is our organic sweetener and isn’t highly refined like your typical white crystal sugar. What happens is the organic cane is broken up, soaked, heated then pressed to get the cane juice out. This cane juice contains sugar and ‘mud’ (molasses-like, dark, strong tasting solids). It’s then filtered to remove any impurities (cane plant fibers, etc) and clarified (some ‘mud’ removed) before evaporating the water to leave crystals. This evaporated cane juice is only refined to the point of having most of the sugar solids intact. Without these steps, the color would be too dark and the taste too strong. The final product is yellow to brown in color. Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

These are the best cereal we

These are the best cereal we ever eat! My two young children eat 2 bowls in the morning! Amazing!

I just bought a bag and it

I just bought a bag and it also has a very strong rancid smell. The expiration says Feb.04, 2012. I’m I just smelling the strong smell of the flax or has it gone bad? I’m scared to eat it, can you tell me how it is suppose to be smelling? Thanks

Hi Annie and thanks for

Hi Annie and thanks for reaching out to us. We are sorry for any confusion about this issue. Flaxseed oil in the flax has a tendency to emit a distinct chemical-like or fishy smell. While these smells are generally characteristic of flax, sometimes this is due to the flax oxidizing and turning rancid. Overall, this is not a food safety issue but— when in doubt, throw out! Flax is a very touchy, volatile ingredient that doesn’t like heat or light, so exposure to these conditions may increase the likelihood of such rancidity. Please contact Nicolette, Consumer Services, using our contact form here: http://www.naturespath.com/contact-us and she can help make this right. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team.

I have been eating this

I have been eating this cereal for years, but recently, ALL the bags that I have bought have that strong rancid smell, something you notice as soon as you open the bag.  I have bought multiple bags from different stores, and they all smell like that.  It is kind of upsetting, because I really do love this cereal.  Could it be something that happened to a whole batch?  Please fix this so we can keep on enjoying this yummy cereal!

OH… I just bought the cereal

OH… I just bought the cereal for the first time and noticed the terrible smell but I ate it anyway (twice now).. should I not be eating it? It did smell awful but being new to the product, I assumed it was normal.

Hi there and thanks for

Hi there and thanks for sharing your comments. We’re sorry you’ve had this experience. Yes, heat can turn the flax seed oil to oxidize and turn rancid and start to smell funny (fishy or plasticy smell). I have told Quality Assurance and we are currently looking into this issue. Please contact Nicolette, Consumer Services, using our contact form here: http://www.naturespath.com/contact-us and she’ll be happy to help make this right. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team.

Regarding the foul smell

Regarding the foul smell coming from my recent shipments of Mesa Sunrise from Amazon (exp Nov 2011):  You have stated on this web site that it was possibly due to overheating in the hot summer.  Could it be that the heat from the warehouse caused the flax seed oil in the cereal to turn rancid?  I have read that a foul smell coming from flax seed means it has turned rancid.

I bought some of your product

I bought some of your product recently from WalMart. I think the cereal may be bad because it smells terrible. The taste is just okay, but I am concerned if I should continue to eat it. What would you advise? I could not find an expiration date on the bag so I don’t know if it is just too old. Thanks for your help!

Hi Mark and thanks for

Hi Mark and thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We’re very sorry to hear you’ve had this experience. The smell you speak of may be due to the flax becoming oxidized and rancid. Unfortunately, flax has a tendency to emit volatile odors that can sometimes smell fishy or chemical-like. This can result if the cereal has been exposed to warm shipping or storage conditions, or if it has been 1-2 months since opened and exposed to air. We don’t use any artificial preservatives and so unfortunately our cereals may have a shorter shelf life. We take your feedback very seriously so I have told Quality Assurance of your concerns. To better the situation, please contact Nicolette, Consumer Services, using our contact form here: http://www.naturespath.com/contact-us. Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team.

Hi there and thanks for

Hi there and thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. Yes, you are correct. The heat from the warehouse could cause flax to turn rancid. This product must be stored in a cool, dry place. It’s also worth mentioning that because we are USDA Certified Organic, we don’t use any preservatives so that decreases the shelf life of the cereal. To make this right, please contact Nicolette, Consumer Services, using our contact form here: http://www.naturespath.com/contact-us and she’ll be able to help you fix this. I have really enjoyed your

I have really enjoyed your breakfast cereal products -- Mesa Sunrise especially. You recently introduced a larger "EcoPac" size of the product and I am pleased that you have reduced the amount of packaging material required. However, I'm wondering if you went in the right direction with a plastic bag -- and, further, how another indestructible plastic bag on the planet is considered Eco. Wouldn't it be possible to, instead, just ship the cereal product in a bag/box made of biodegradable waxed paper? I'm thinking of the food containers that Whole Foods provides in their hot, to-go food section -- seems that this sort of container would be more than adequate for product freshness over its shelf life. This solution may not be suitable for some products but Mesa Sunrise seems to remain fresh even after leaving the bag open for a week or two! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks so much for your

Thanks so much for your comments Randall. We worked very hard on our packaging ensuring that it didn’t contain BPAs, synthetic fungicides, preservatives and/or fumigants, and all those other harmful horrible things. We are diligently working with organic industry companies to develop a 100% recyclable, compostable plastic film made from non Genetically Modified plant cellulose – possibly wood. Right now there isn’t a suitable packaging substitute on the market for our products that’s made from a non Genetically Modified (GMO) plant base. We’re doing our best though Randall and will be sure to keep our consumers in the loop. All the best, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

I love your gluten free

I love your gluten free cereals. Taste was not compromised in formulating your cereals. They are delicious. I really like the Mesa Sunrise. I just bought the economy size bag. I see others have commented on the packaging. Why not make a bigger box. I guess that isn’t cost effective. My bigger issue is once it’s opened, I’ll have to find a container to store it in. I do not want to store it in some plastic thing. I thought of a big glass biscuit jar, but I fear it will go stale. For now I’ll just fold it over and use a plastic clip. Thanks for remembering us, the celiacs and I know people who just gave up gluten products due to their autoimmune diseases, arthritis, etc.

Thanks so much for reaching

Thanks so much for reaching out to us Claire! No only cost effective Claire, but waaaay better for the environment! If we have it in a thicker bag like we do, then we don’t need a box to put the bag in. We have a lot of fans that keep Nature’s Path cereals in clear plastic containers and the cereals do last for the same amount of time as they would in the bag. But even in the bag they stay fresh. Your plastic clip idea is great! I do the same thing with my Eco Pacs. We are currently more than half way through our repackaging design, so you’ll see some new packages across the board this summer. We’ll have our Eco Pacs out as soon as we can. I’ve recently moved to Sydney

I’ve recently moved to Sydney and after getting addicted (in a good healthy way :)) to the Mesa Sunrise flakes I was panicked about not being able to find them here. I have managed to locate a vendor and I try to buy them out each time I go so as never to be without. My husband, 22 month old daughter and I just love these flakes to pieces. I’m so happy to be providing my family with such a nutritious and delicious cereal. We stick to a gluten free diet and this food does the g-free movement very proud. Thank you, Nature’s Path. I do have one question regarding the difference in packaging. In the States I buy the flakes in an Eco-PAC but here they sell them in boxes. On the Eco-PAC it says gluten free but on the boxes here it doesn’t specify gluten free. I was curious to know why and wanted to make sure that all the MEsa Sunrise flakes were gluten free. Hi Giovanna and thanks so

Hi Giovanna and thanks so much for getting in touch with us. We’re so glad you and your family are enjoying this cereal! Because the Australian and North American laws are different, we can’t state that this cereal is gluten free in Australia. In North America and the UK we have a standard of 20 parts per million (ppm) for a Gluten Free product. In Australia and New Zealand if a product is 20 ppm you must state that the product is either “low gluten” or “wheat free”. If you email Nicolette in Consumer Services at consumerservices@naturespath.com she can provide you with some more information. All the best, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

My wife and enjoy your Mesa sunshine cereal. She is gluten, lactose, and soy intolerant. I noticed you show soy in this cereal, but don’t list it in the ingredients. Is it the vit. E that has the soy in it? How much soy is there in each serving? Thank you in advance for your timely response. Keith

Hi there Keith and thanks for

Hi there Keith and thanks for reaching out to us. I can understand why this may be confusing. To clarify, we put a disclaimer that states that this product may contain soy or that it’s produced in a facility that uses soy. By saying this, we hope to ensure everyone knows that while the risk is quite low, there’s still a small chance of cross-contamination with soy and therefore we prefer to err on the side of caution and let you know this. Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

In addition to being vegan &

In addition to being vegan & gluten-free, I am also soy free. I recently was going to buy your Mesa Sunrise cereal in the eco pac bag. I read that it “contains soy.” However the Mesa Sunrise cereal sold in the box only says “made in a facility that also processes soy.” So which is it? I can’t figure out what the soy ingredient would be.

Hi there and thanks for

Hi there and thanks for reaching out to us. I totally understand why these labels may be confusing and so I’ll pass this feedback along to our Brand Manager. In the meantime, I’ll let you know the reason you see these warnings are to let people know that there’s a possibility of cross-contamination with soy as our facilities also process products with soy in it. While soy isn’t listed as an ingredient, we think the risk is too great to not keep you completely informed of any possible chance, as minute as it may be. If you are allergic to soy, we don’t suggest consuming this. Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

That’s the exact same reason

That’s the exact same reason I came to the natures path website! Soy is not listed in the ingredients!
